Throughout the ages Storytelling have played a major role in formulating and preserving the culture and traditions of mankind. Storytelling holds a vital place in our society and is appreciated for the message and moral values it delivers. Story Telling generally involves narrating a story which consists of a main character, plot and message. Story Telling usually comprise of stories with regard to legends, mythologies, famous person, fairy tales, folk tales, ghost stories, etc.

Story Telling in India:

In earlier times when man didn’t know how to write, these stories used to be passed over orally by the means of Storytelling from one generation to another. In those days people used to live in groups or clans and the elder of that clan used to narrate stories related to their gods, ancestors, heroes or heroic events. Later when man leant how to write several stories were written in the form of texts and scripture. Some of these ancient texts and scriptures have managed to survive the passage of time and were found in preserved condition. These ancient stories have turned out be very helpful in getting to know about the ancestors, gods and the life of people in ancient times.

Almost each country has its own folklore and tales. In India several ancient manuscript and texts have been found. These texts contain numerous stories and tales which have been translated into several books and are available today to the main stream. Some of the most popular types of stories are the stories meant for the children. These stories are not only interesting but deliver a positive message of values and duties. These stories have become quite popular among the kids and today they have become a part of our life. One of the most famous of these ancient scriptures is the Panchatantra. It consists of several amazing and wonderful stories. The characters in these stories are generally portrayed in the form of animals with each of it having a particular trait or quality.
