Storytelling techniques for children:
The first point to remember is to select a right story. For this purpose you will need to have to select those stories which are
entertaining and interesting for children such as stories involving legends, folk tales, myths, tall tales, fables, fairy and ghost or scary stories. The story should consist of interesting characters, well-defined theme and understandable plot. The most important thing while choosing such stories is to select stories with a moral and satisfying ending.
Second thing to follow is to bring story to life. For this purpose you will need to read thoroughly the story you have selected and become familiar with it. Pick out points where there is action and moments of description in the story. Generally the stories are divided in three parts, beginning, middle and end. The action is located in middle of the story. While describing a story try to create imaginary pictures in the minds of a listener by including physical actions, sound effects and expressions. Your focus should be on bringing the character into life.
The last but not the least thing to include in your storytelling is the props. For this purpose you will need to use certain gestures, sounds and voice while narrating a story. You can use the rate and pitch of your voice. You can even try using different voices for different characters of the story. Express the emotions of character while delivering the lines.
